I'm the founder of Hanashi. In early 2025 I took a leap and moved to Tokyo. I knew some basic Japanese but not enough to hold a conversation.
I was studying everyday and going to lessons but still I didn't get enough speaking practice. Even when you are motivated and showing up every day, it can be hard to find people who will slow down, stick with you, and help you build confidence as you speak.
That's when I had the idea to build Hanashi. I wanted an easy way to converse at my own pace and at any time I wanted, with topics and features built specifically for language learners who want to speak more.
Hanashi started with Japanese because that was the language I needed most. Now Hanashi supports Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic.
