I'm the founder of Hanashi. In early 2025 I took a leap and moved to Tokyo. I knew some basic Japanese but not enough to hold a conversation.
I've been studying everyday and going to lessons but still I don't get enough speaking practice. Even when you are in Japan it can be hard to find native speakers willing to sit down and listen to your broken Japanese. Tokyo people are super busy right!
I had tried practicing with ChatGPT but it kept constantly interrupting me and losing track of the conversation. It's too generic and just not made for learning Japanese.
That's when I had the idea to build Hanashi. I wanted an easy way to converse at my own pace and at any time I wanted, with topics and features specifically tailored for Japanese.
